General notes: Minas Gerais reconstructed and modernised, improved fire control arrangements being fitted, in 1934-39; Sao Paulo to be transformed similarly in due course.
Engineering notes: The former No.1 stokehold was converted into four oil-fuel deep-tanks, - the space available between top of tanks and main deck being used as distilling plant, with all necessary auxiliaries. 12 side coal bunkers converted into wing oil-fuel tanks, there being 2 service oil tanks for each stokehold. All upper coal bunkers removed. Internal arrangements entirely changed, in accordance with the requirements of new uptakes with single funnel. The whole Thornycroft supply includes:- main and auxiliary feed water pumps, oil fuel pumps, oil heaters and filters, teledep-instalation, ventilating-plant, pipes, etc.
