General Notes. - This ship was provided for under 1914 Navy Estimates, as a battleship. After Falkland Islands battle she was re-designed as a battle cruiser. Cost, GBP 3,117,204. Refits: 1919-20, GBP 100,738; 1921-22, GBP 175,518; 1924-26, GBP 979,927; 1936-39 (complete reconstruction and re-engining), GBP 3,088,008. Sister ship, Repulse was lost in Dec., 1941.
