General Notes.- Name of these battleships commemorate those of 2 cruisers sunk at the Battle of the Falklands, Dec. 8, 1914. In 1941 both received extensive damage from heavy bombing attacks, and both were under refit for the greater part of 1942.
Gunnery Notes.- 11 inch caliber was accepted for these ships in order to allow a greater proportion of weight to be devoted to protection.
