General Notes: Both ships were thoroughly reconstructed 1932-33 and altered in profile. The replacing of the 24 Miyabara boilers by (?) 8 Kanpon has enabled the forward boiler room to be converted to other uses, and there is now only one tunnel fitted with an anti-flare top. The base of the foremast has been enlarged and fitted with wings, and the tripod mainmast is replaced by a tower base on which AA guns are mounted. No. 3 turret in Fuso only bears forward, and has a catapult on the crown, while additional searchlights have been grouped around the funnel. A large amount of additional armour and anti-torpedo structure has been worked into the ships, but details are lacking. Formerly 14 inch guns were reported as having an elevation of 25°, but this has probably now been increased. Anti-aircraft armament augmented during 1936-37 refit.
