Her mast is at the University of Indiana and her anchor is at Fort Wayne, Indiana; other items are in various state museums.

General Notes. - These ships are a modification of North Caolina design with increased freeboard and reduced length, embodying sundry improvements. Alabama was built in 2 3/4 years from date of laying keel. S.Dakota played a prominent part in naval victory over Japanese squadron in Battle of Guadalcanal, Nov. 13-16, 1942.
Gunnery Notes. - Outstanding feature of these ships is the very large number of 40mm. Bofors and 20mm. Oerlikon guns included in AA armament. 5 inch are mounted at highher level than in North Carolina class.
