Activity - escort aircraft carrier History Ex Telemachus D94 - (R301) Built by Caledon. Laid down 1 Feb 1940, converted prior to completion, launched 30 May 1942, commissioned 29 September 1942. Operated on Russia convoys, and as a training carrier in 1943. Assigned RN designation R301 circa 1945 for service in the Pacific, but probably not redesignated. Employed as a ferry carrier after 8/1944. Decommissioned to reserve 20 October 1945. Sold into merchant service 4/1946 as Breconshire. Scrapped at Mihara, Japan starting 24 April 1967. Concept/Program: Second RN-converted escort carrier, taken over prior to completion as a merchant ship and converted to an improved design. Design/Conversion: Followed the general pattern of other escort carrier conversions: stripped to main deck; flight deck and hangar added. The hangar was small, but much better than the arrangement in Audacity. There was a small island. Modifications: Unknown. Operational: Operated mostly on Russia convoys as an ASW and fighter ship; frequently acted as an oiler for escort vessels. Departure from Service/Disposal: Discarded immediately post-war.
